Big Five (5) Game Lodge near Kruger Park and Bordering the Olifants River in Limpopo South Africa

The Goss family have owned this 3000 hectare (7500 acre) wildlife property and Big five (5) Game Lodge in Limpopo Province, South Africa, for two generations and over 25 years. We thus have in depth and intimate knowledge of the area and its longer term natural cycles.

Many years back there were fences between Elephants Drift and the Kruger National Park, one of Africa’s oldest and largest conservation areas. These were taken down when the whole area became part of the Greater Kruger National Park. Now wildlife roams freely over some 7500 sq km of which Elephants Drift is a part.

The area borders on the mighty Olifants River which is a magnet to wildlife in the dry winter months and the Klaserie River is also nearby. The wilderness is crossed by a number of beautiful dry river beds with tongue-twisting African names like Nkankomichi, Hlangari and Nkanyini. These flow as torrents during most rainy seasons and (when dry!) are ideal shady routes for walking safaris; the Parrot Tree Tented Camp overlooks a particularly lovely one as does Elephants Drift Main Camp.

Hills, ridges and koppies (small rocky outcrops) are also a feature of our wilderness; these provide panoramic views, picnic and sundowner sites and are often good vantage points for spotting game to be approached more closely on foot or vehicle (depending on the size of the body – and the sharpness of the teeth!).
